Susan Harriet Davidson ...

Susan Harriet Davidson, with an unknown child.

Susan Harriet Davidson, born in 1876, was the last of Robert and Margaret’s 9 children and was born on her parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. Sadly, Susan never knew her father as she was only around 18 months old when he died suddenly in 1880.

Like her sister Maggie, Susan never married and spent most of her life moving between Gippsland and Mt. Egerton. Susan and Maggie farmed in Bena, Gippsland, for a number of years, before moving back to Mt. Egerton and living in the Doch and Doris Hotel after it was relocated from its original site into the Egerton township. She was also known to have run a guest house in Korumburra in the 1940s.

Susan walked with a limp, the result of being knocked off her pushbike while shopping one day when she broke her legs and hip. Despite being put in plaster and treatment, she was left with a limp. Like her sister, Susan was known to spoil her nephews and nieces, however she was also very strict and expected them to do everything they were told. While her sister was called ‘Old Aunty’ by their nephews and nieces, Susan was called ‘Little Aunty’.

Susan Davidson passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Ballarat in 1955 at the age of 76. Like so many of her family, her cause of death was heart related. She is buried at Mt. Egerton Cemetery in the same family plot as her parents, her McIntosh grandparents and her sister, Maggie.
