Chambers Descendant Report

The Chambers Descendant Report is compiled from my own research and through contacts I have had over the years. Please note it only covers the descendants of Giles and Mary through Joseph James Chambers and Annie/Hannah Fletcher (our direct line). Information on the other children of Giles and Mary is scant and I will include as it is confirmed.

A great deal of information relating to family lines listed in the tree is the result of the Chambers Family Reunion held at the Willows Historical Park in Melton in the early 1990's. There are areas lacking in detail, as well as areas which obviously would need to be updated since then.

Chambers & Fletcher Census Records ...

It was while researching the 1881 British Census that I realised how valuable Census records can be when I discovered that Giles and Mary were now living by themselves in Bristol, and Joseph James had set up house with his wife Annie Fletcher and their children in Cirencester, over 60 kilometres (40 miles) way. The one thing that had me puzzled was that Joseph Henry, aged 2 at the time, did not appear listed on their census record for the night. I performed a general search for a Joseph Henry Chambers, aged 2, and came up with one who was visiting with a Jane Neale and her son in Bristol on the night of the census. I immediately knew that this was my Joseph Henry for two reasons. Firstly, the Neale residence was very near where Giles and Mary were, and secondly, Jane Neale was in fact Joseph Henry's aunt, being the sister of Joseph James. It may be that Joseph Jnr was being minded by Jane, given that Annie, his mother, had a house full of children, including a 1 year old.
